Michelin introduces the MICHELIN Primacy 5, a tyre designed for both cars and SUVs, offering improved performance and a reduced environmental footprint. This latest model boasts an 18% longer lifespan compared to the Primacy 4+ while maintaining excellent safety on wet surfaces, whether the tyre is new or worn.
The MICHELIN Primacy 5 addresses the needs of internal combustion engine (ICE), electric (EV), and hybrid vehicles by enhancing durability, reducing noise levels, and improving energy efficiency by 5%. Additionally, it lowers its environmental impact by 6%, aligning with Michelin Group’s “All Sustainable” strategy.
Developing a new generation of tyres is a complex challenge. Advancing one or two features without compromising others is already impressive, but Michelin goes further — simultaneously improving lifespan, rolling resistance, comfort, and noise reduction, all while maintaining high safety standards and respecting the environment.
A Tyre Built for Safety and Longevity
The tyre features a patented tread pattern with 10% deeper channels for optimised water evacuation and uses next-generation functional elastomers. These innovations earn it an A rating under European standards and improve wet-surface braking by 4% compared to its predecessor. The 18% increase in lifespan translates to approximately 7,000 km (4,350 miles) of additional safe driving, making it ideal for both daily commutes and long-distance family trips.
As modern vehicles grow heavier and place greater demands on tyres, the MICHELIN Primacy 5 maintains high performance levels, both when new and worn. This durability contributes to a 6% reduction in environmental impact, as measured by the tyre’s life cycle assessment (LCA).
Prioritising Comfort and Noise Reduction
With the rise of electric vehicles, reducing noise and enhancing comfort have become even more crucial. The MICHELIN Primacy 5 builds on the legacy of the Primacy range by incorporating Michelin’s expertise in minimising interior noise. Each tyre size benefits from carefully designed tread patterns and strategically positioned blocks and sipes, ensuring excellent external noise control, interior comfort, and a quieter ride.
A Comprehensive Environmental Approach
Michelin takes a holistic view of environmental responsibility, evaluating every stage of a tyre’s life cycle — from development and manufacturing to transport, use, and end of life. Every new tyre must outperform its predecessor in both efficiency and sustainability. Thanks to improvements in lifespan (+18%) and rolling resistance (-5%), the MICHELIN Primacy 5 achieves a 6% better LCA score than the Primacy 4+.
A Tyre for All Engine Types
Michelin aims to ensure all drivers benefit from its latest innovations, regardless of their vehicle’s powertrain. The MICHELIN Primacy 5 delivers top-tier performance suited to cars and SUVs, whether powered by combustion engines, hybrid systems, or electric motors. It seamlessly combines durability, range, torque management, noise reduction, and eco-friendliness.
By adopting this universal approach, Michelin empowers customers to select tyres based on their driving needs rather than their vehicle’s fuel type.
Availability
The MICHELIN Primacy 5 will launch in 87 sizes in 2025, with 64 sizes available across Europe starting in January. By mid-2026, the range will expand to 149 dimensions. The tyre will also be introduced in other regions, including Asia, beginning in March 2025.
